This I know from experience. You will have no problems on relatively level ground. However, pulling a 6,000-pound load up or down steeper grades can be dangerous. We once had two wagons full of ear corn on a steep gravel road hill. 8N could not pull the load up the hill and could not stop it from rolling back down the hill.

Obviously, there are quite a few pros, but there are some cons as well. 1- COST!. 2- Much harder on rims, hubs and wheel bearings. There is a lot more weight and you really have the machine anchored to the ground. Please keep your lug nuts (or bolts) tight. 3- Rougher ride than air. 4- COST! And when the tire is wore out, more COST again. The only tractor I ever operated was an 8N owned by my close friend, Lewis Mills, of Ashland, Virginia, so it was only natural to look for an N when I moved out to the country six years ago. That, and the fact that Ashland still had a Ford tractor dealership. My first N was a 1950, followed by a 1951 with a Freeman loader, followed by another 1950.
